Vail to Portland

As I spend my last days in Vail, swinging wildly away on the golf course, I am preparing to visit my college stomping grounds.  My handicap has dropped a full four strokes which means most of the golf course time is well spent.  Portland is where I went to school and where I lived for a short while after college before following my passion for blog writing to SE Asia.  Many of my friends are still there but this may be the last summer when most are.  They are starting their real lives returning to academia.  This is a step that honestly scares me.  They will finish this next step with labels such as RN, JD, PHD and MD which unless they create one for track and field I will never get.  I am proud of them but it does feel somewhat like the end of an era where Portland was home and the futureless jobs (I worked for mobile entertainment company) are a thing of the past.   The stepping off point for this next step is a cross country road trip which Tom and I will be taking along with Peter (JD) and Lauren (PHD), who will be going to the east coast and their futures.  I am going because I think it will be a great adventure and a last hurrah with friends.  I will do my best to chronical this journey and check in at the new locations with photos.

Laos is getting closer everyday.  Tom and I have officially been selected as coaches for the Luang Prabang Nationals teams.  Somlath is the secretary of Track and Field and will be coaching along side us.   I am excited because he speaks English and understands what we can do and how to help, plus he is an awesome guy to hang out with.  The team will be selected under his supervision which could be interesting.  I will be arriving back in Laos on the 14th of September and Tom shortly thereafter.

I hope you are all doing well.
